These can include Whale watching at Hervey Bay and snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef are popular activities along the East Coast. The three capital cities that are found along the East Coast, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne are all unique in their own way and are internationally recognised cities. Sydney is a fast paced city and is generally known as a place where "anything goes". Sydney is an extremely popular destination for tourists and holds many major events including the annual Mardi Gras Parade and Festival as well as being the host for the Olympic Games in 2000. Melbourne is a constantly growing city with world class shopping, sporting, cultural activities and festivals and continues to draw increasingly larger numbers of tourists each year. It is the capital city of Victoria and the home of AFL (Australian Football League). It is a structured looking city with its neat and organized buildings but with a closer look you will find that it is made up of distinct little areas each with their own unique flavour, charm and creative energy. Brisbane is the capital city of Queensland and is the third most popular destination for tourists, following Sydney and Melbourne. Brisbane is a relaxed environment with the subtropical weather making it an attractive area for a beach holiday and for some "fun in the sun".
